A Sub Section of the Surveillance Act - Section 9
9 Prohibition on installation, use and maintenance of tracking devices
(1) A person must not knowingly install, use or maintain a tracking device to determine the geographical location of:
(a) a person--without the express or implied consent of that person, or
(b) an object--without the express or implied consent of a person in lawful possession or having lawful control of that object.

Providing you are Lawfully intending to use a Tracking Device, the information below is to help you in deciding which is the best for your requirements.
There are two types of tracking devices for vehicles, Live GPS and USB GPS.
- The LIVE GPS device allows you to view the whereabouts of the tracking device at any given time.
- The USB GPS will record where the device has been and store it within the unit. You then have to retrieve the USB GPS and plug it into your computer. Once plugged in, you will be able to download the data from the device and see on a map where the device has been.
GPS Tracking devices have become more popular in recent times. Like all new technology, GPS units have their advantages and disadvantages.
LIVE GPS units typically work off mobile phone reception, and by nature, require a good signal in order to work efficiently.
When they work, they are great, when the fail, they are useless.
Whilst GPS units when they work can provide you information on the person's or object’s whereabouts, they will not tell you what they are doing there.
